New car registrations in Romania dropped 62% in the first ten months of 2009, to 96,176 units, compared with the same period of last year, when there were 252,924 registrations, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
New car registrations at EU level decreased by 4.8% in the first ten months of this year, from 12,504,457 units in the same period in 2008, to 11,906,429 cars.
In October, the number of registrations in Romania fell by 69.1%, to 7,572 cars, from 24,474 vehicles in the same month last year.
In the new EU Member States, the number of registrations fell by 36.9% in October.
Of these states, only the Czech Republic reported growth, of 8.8%. In the others, the decline ranged from 8.4% in Poland to 81.6% in Latvia.
In Western Europe, new car registrations rose in October, supported by the scrapping bonus programmes. Registrations in Great Britain advanced by 31.6%, by 26.4% in Spain, by 24.1% in Germany and by 20.3% in France.
As regards the number of new Dacia cars registrations in Europe (EU and EFTA countries), it increased by 24.5% during the period January - October, having in view that the market fell by 5%, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association. These results are due to the scrapping programmes introduced by governments in several states. Thus, the number of new Dacia vehicles entered into service in the EU Member States, except Cyprus and Malta, and the EFTA countries - Switzerland, Norway and Iceland - was 194,824 in the first ten months of 2009, up from 156,467 in same period the previous year. Also, Dacia's market share increased from 1.2% to 1.6%.
In October, the number of Dacia registrations in Europe increased by 19%, to 20,753 units.
