-  Generali Asigurări underwrote gross premiums of 370 million lei in the first nine months, up 16% as compared to the same period last year, against the backdrop of the 20% advance registered by the general insurance, at a volume of 306 million lei, the company announced Monday. In the first three quarters of last year, the company reported a volume of gross underwritten premiums of 319 million lei, of which general insurance accounted for 255 million lei.

-  Profit before tax of Alpha Bank in Romania fell by 10.1% in the first nine months, as compared to the same period last year, to 43 million euros, because of the increase in provisions, says a report of the Greek group to which the bank belongs. Alpha Bank's credit portfolio on the Romanian market was worth 4.3 billion euros at the end of September, up 6.5% from the end of the first nine months of 2008, the non-performing loans representing 2% of the total, namely 85 million euros.

- Air operator British Airways estimates that the number of passengers on its flights to and from Romania in 2009 will remain at last year's level, against the backdrop of lower tariffs, as compared with 2008, said Monday, at a press conference, Christian Fornaschon, director in the company.

- The turnover of pulp and paper manufacturer Someş Dej (SMS), a company controlled by businessman Ştefan Vuza, dropped by 40% in first nine months, to 59 million lei (13.9 million euros), while losses increased by 18%, to 3.2 million lei (776,000 euros).

- Industrial production fell by 8.5% after the first nine months of the year, the decline being lower than that registered in the period January-August, against the backdrop of a production recovery in September, as compared to the previous month, when it climbed to 21.3% in unadjusted series, according to INS data.
