Bran Castle reopens officially
In briefBran Castle will be officially reopened today, after having been taken under management by the family of Princess Ileana of Romania, the Bran Domain Management Company announced on Friday.
On the occasion of the reopening of the castle, the visitation schedule will be between 9.00 and 12.00, and for the park of the castle until 6 p.m.
Today, between 9.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m, children are invited, to the Medieval School, where they can participate in the workshops of heraldic painting and iconography, in sword handling, archery, egg-painting technique and potter's wheel. The official reopening is scheduled for 1 p.m., a moment to be marked by the launch of Chateau Bran wines: Chateau Bran-Merlot 2007, edition limited to 10,410 bottles, and Chateau Bran-Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, collectors' edition, 1,377 bottles with the original signature of H.I.H. Dominic Habsburg.
At 3 p.m., a concert of old Romanian music will be given by the "Anton Pann" group in the Castle.
Bran Castle officially passed into the ownership of Dominic of Habsburg on 18 May, when the lawyers for the House of Habsburg and the museum management signed the delivery-receipt protocol for the castle.
"The conclusion of the delivery-receipt protocol was just a technicality resulting from the agreement concluded three years ago, an agreement that left the castle under the administration of the Ministry of Culture for three years. The three years have passed and the castle passed under the direct administration of Dominic of Habsburg," Narcis Dorin, the Manager of the Bran Museum Complex said on 18 May.
During the last months, the Ministry of Culture has withdrawn all objects in the national patrimony from Bran Castle, storing them in the Medieval Customs House, where a new museum will open soon, and the family of Dominic Habsburg has brought new collections in the rooms of Bran Castle, which can be seen by tourists as of 1 June.
Bran Castle, whose first documentary attestation dates from November 1377, is one of the most important tourist objects in Romania. The fortress attracts foreign tourists mainly because it is associated with Dracula - its fame coming from the homonymous novel of Bram Stoker.
In 1920, Bran Castle was donated by the Braşov Municipality to Queen Maria, who bequeathed it to her daughter, Princess Ileana. She held it until 1948, when the castle was nationalised by the communist regime.
In May 2006, Bran Castle was returned to Archduke Dominic Habsburg-Lothringen. Dominic of Habsburg is the son of Archduke Anton of Habsburg and of Princess Ileana of Romania - the daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Maria.
