The first half of January brought a 18% decrease in the number of ads in the Romanian printed press, as compared to the same period last year, and by nearly 30%, in comparison with 2007, according to data provided to NewsIn by the monitoring company AlfaCont.
The specialists' predictions for 2009, according to which, this year, printed press will be one of the most affected media segments in Europe are now also confirmed by figures. What the consumer of magazines and newspapers sees with the naked eye, namely pages with less ads, employment notices and erotic services by phone, is clearly "read" in the balance of advertising for the first days of 2009.
Thus, in the period 1-15 January, there were 1373 ads in 21 newspapers with national circulation, according to data provided by AlfaCont. During the same period in 2008, the number of advertising layouts appeared in the central press was 1670, and in 2007 - 1918.
Therefore, the decrease in the number of ads in the printed press has been manifest since 2008. Moreover, only 60% of the ads appeared in the period 1-15 June 2008 were paid, the remaining 656 appearances having been based on barter-type contracts.
Returning to the first days of the current year, in addition to the drop in the total number of ads, the crisis also quantifies in the fact that of all the 1373 advertising layout, more than one quarter were self-promotion for the Romanian media trusts for trusts media in Romania, as it also results from the data provided by AlfaCont. The same data show that about half of the ads appeared between 1 and 15 January 2008 are the result of barter-type contracts.
In a ranking of the most active customers in the printed press advertising, established according to the number of ads, in the period 1-15 January 2008, the first position is occupied by the media institutions with a total of 563 ads, a not at all surprising reality in the context of crisis, also accentuated by the fact that the self-promotion of services and products of the media institutions registers an increase of about 12 percent over the same period in 2008. Business services rank second. The companies in this industry promoted their services in the printed press through 82 ads, a figure similar to that of 2008 for the same period. The third place goes to the area of Internet and related services, with 74 models.
